Two groups of Dolphin Destiny clients visited Panama this Spring and Summer with great reviews for the accommodations, site-seeing and diving that can be found in this remote island group. This region is reached by flying from the US gateway cities to Panama City then transferring to the local airport in Panama City and they flying to Bocas Del Torro via Panama Air on a short 1 hour + flight. Upon arriving in Bocas we were met by the representatives from Red Frog Beach Resort.

Red Frog Beach Resort & Nature Preserve:
Red-Frog325This luxury villa resort is a short 10-15 minute small boat transfer from Bocas and features a beach that many in Panama consider their “most famous beach”. The private villas range in size from 1, 2, 3, 4, and even a 5 bedroom villa…..all with private pools and gourmet kitchens. The rainforested island is a nature preserve and a National Park. While we were on the island we saw red frogs, monkeys, sloths, iguanas and sea turtles. Transport on the island to the beach bar or restaurant is limited to golf carts which are rented at the reception area. There is also a marina and a zip line on the island. Each day we were picked up by Bocas Dive Center for scuba diving excursions.

Bocas Dive Center:
We were so impressed by this Padi 5 Star dive facility! The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The boats were clean and comfortable and with sun covers and stocked with either lunch items or surface interval snacks, depending on your dive sites.

The dive sites themselves were interesting and different than most Caribbean sites with plenty of underwater formations to explore. Bocas is part of an archipelago of nine large islands that includes the protected Bastimentos National Marine Park. This is where you’ll find the best dive in Panama; nearly all of the coral species found in the Caribbean can be found here.

Several of the sites are in the protected bay area and are very comfortable for beginner and open water divers. The more advanced sites are further from Bocas in the open ocean. We really enjoyed Tiger Rock which is the tip of a seamount that rises from the seafloor and protrudes only a few feet above the ocean’s surface. The deepest part of the dive is approximately 90 feet with lots of fish, coral encrusted crevices and walls rich with life.

Bocas Town Restaurants and Nightlife:
Bocas Town is a bustling waterfront town with many great restaurants that set right on the wharf over the water. It’s a great place to come for dinner and even has a couple of nightclubs!

Dolphin Destiny can set up your entire journey to Panama including a stopover in Panama City so that you can see the Panama Canal!

Call and ask for Mary Jane.
